This ultimate challenge is for true adventure seekers who want to take their team spirit to the next level while skiing through the Arctic winter. Skiing by day and camping in the wild will need a lot of endurance and teamwork and will provide a once in a lifetime experience.

27-30 km (16.8-18.6 miles) of skiing. 6–10 hours of physical activity per day.

Weather Conditions

Temperature is typically from -10 to -30 degrees Celsius. Daylight is around 3–10 hours.

Online Course in Advance

Winter activity online course for self preparation included in the adventure fee.

Local, tasty, healthy and plentiful meals are enjoyed at our accommodation or in wilderness.

We are simple and straightforward: For every adventure we provide we’ll give you a fixed per-person price. Our price includes always the following and more.

Safety

The adventure is led by a professional guide team that has suitable safety training for all the activities in the program. We have a detailed safety plan and risk assessment for the camp and the activities. Safety training is given before every activity.

Professional Guide

The adventure is led by a professional guide team with a dedicated main guide and experienced to work with children. Learn more about our guides from below!

Foods & drinks

All food is included. The menu typically consists of typical Finnish foods which are sourced as locally as possible. The food is plentiful and will give you lots of energy. Specific dietary requirements can be accommodated.

Gear for Activities

All the special gear will be provided; however, adventurers will be expected to come prepared for a variety of weather conditions. Optional winter clothing rental set available.

Accommodation

Adventure Apes Lodge is located in the countryside of Kuusamo. The rooms are dorm-style with private bathrooms. Bed linen, towels and traditional wood-heated sauna are included. While in wilderness, suitable accommodation such as tents or shelters are provided.

Language

Our adventure are generally available in English or Finnish. Other preferred languages can usually be arranged – ask for other languages.

Free for school personnel or guardians

Adults (up to 2 person) join the adventure for free, but they are requested to participate fully in the program. Adults are also responsible for the night watch and make sure everyone stays in bed between 10pm and 7am.

Camp Programme

Check out the summarised version of the camp programme below. We will provide a more comprehensive version of the programme with the quote.

Day 1: Arrival and preparations


Transportation from the Airport. Dinner and get-together with guides. Tour briefing and getting known with the gear.

Review of the route plan with guides. Checking through the personal and shared equipment.

Day 2: Preparations for Expedition


Learning how to ski with a skin based skis and how to use snowshoes. Packing a sledge and learning to pull equipment in the snow.

Pracicing using a fuel cooker and cooking lunch outdoors with cooking boxes.

Learning how to set up a camp in the snow. Sleeping outside in a four season sleeping bag nearby the Adventure Apes Lodge.

Day 3: Expedition Starts


Expedition starts by heading to the North. Using both skis and snowshoes to move in different terrain. Lunch along the route.

Arriving to the campsite and setting up the camp. Gear maintenance with guides.

Optional skiing trek in the pitch dark. With a bit of luck there might be Aurora Borealis dancing in the Northern sky.

Day 4: Getting Deeper into the Wild


Skiing through the largest fjells in the area.

Longer break for cooking lunch and enjoying hot drinks along the way. Arriving to the campsite at afternoon.

Optional hike summiting the highest fell of the area with stunning views over a frozen lake.

Day 5: Last Stretch of your Expedition


Skiing on a frozen lake. Learning safety procedures regarding moving on ice.

A challenging summit to the steep hill. Can the whole team get up to the hill?

Returning to the Adventure Apes Lodge. Gear maintenance. Dinner and relaxing at the traditional wood heated Sauna.

Day 6: Ice Fishing & Snow Games


Plentiful breakfast prepared by the Adventure Apes Lodge staff.

Ice Fishing at the Lake Kitka. A lunch at the Adventure Apes Lodge. Snow games outdoors. Reflection session together.

Farewell dinner party and team recognition for all team members.

Day 7: Time to Say Goodbye


We like to say a great adventure never ends, it merely changes form to become part of who you are.

After breakfast transportation to the Airport.

Professional Guides

The guide team consists of professional guides having experience in all the activities included in the program. Main guide is available 24/7 during the adventure. 

Our guides have experience in guiding children and young people in arctic wilderness and have also participated in Adventure Apes in-house training including safety and adventure education training. They are also first aid certified. In addition there might be trainees who are in the Adventure Apes training program.

Adventurers are requested to follow the guide’s instructions in all circumstances.
