This adventure camp gives you the opportunity to experience Finland’s favorite winter activities while living close to nature – try cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, ice fishing and igloo building while learning about Finnish culture and traditions. Education about the natural environment is delivered alongside activities for a learning-by-doing approach.

We are simple and straightforward: For every adventure we provide we’ll give you a fixed per-person price. Our price includes always the following and more.

Safety

The adventure is led by a professional guide team that has suitable safety training for all the activities in the program. We have a detailed safety plan and risk assessment for the camp and the activities. Safety training is given before every activity.

Professional Guides

The adventure is led by a professional guide team with a dedicated main guide and experienced to work with children. Learn more about our guides from below!

Foods & drinks

All food is included. The menu typically consists of typical Finnish foods which are sourced as locally as possible. The food is plentiful and will give you lots of energy. Specific dietary requirements can be accommodated when informed in advance.

Gear for Activities

All the special activity related gear will be provided; however, adventurers will be expected to come prepared for a variety of weather conditions. For winter school camps we have optional rental clothing sets available.

Accommodation

Adventure Apes Lodge is located in the countryside of Kuusamo. The rooms are dorm-style with private bathrooms. Bed linen, towels and traditional wood-heated sauna are included. While in wilderness, suitable accommodation such as tents or shelters are provided.

Language

Our adventures are generally available in English or Finnish.

School personnel or guardians join at discounted price

Adults (up to 3 person) join the adventure at discounted price, but they are requested to participate fully in the program. Adults are also responsible for the night watch and make sure everyone stays in bed between 10pm and 7am.

Camp Programme

Day 1: Arrival and preparations


Arrival and transportation from the Airport to the Adventure Apes Lodge.

Settling in, adventure briefing & dinner at the Lodge.

Day 2: Igloo, Sledding & Sauna


Morning adventure: Adventure journal introduction. Gear check.

Afternoon adventure: Igloo building (part 1). Sledding in two groups. Intro to Finnish Sauna culture.

Evening activity: Igloo theory. Finnish lessons.

Day 3: Cross-Country Skiing, Gym & Night in Igloo


Morning adventure: Cross-country skiing school (group 1). Open gym (group 2).

Afternoon adventure: Igloo building (part 2). Snacks in Kota (traditional hut with open fire).

Evening activity: Movie Night (group 1), Night in the Igloo (group 2).

Day 4: Ice Skating, Gym & Night in Igloo


Morning adventure: Cross-country skiing school (group 2). Open gym (group 1).

Afternoon adventure: Adventure Journal & Ice Skating in two groups.

Evening activity: Movie Night (group 2), Night in the Igloo (group 1).

Day 5: Ice Fishing Day


Morning adventure: Ice fishing & Free time in two groups.

Afternoon adventure: Cross country skiing 2 & free time in two groups.

Sauna & dinner. Games night.

Day 6: Snowshoeing Day


Morning adventure: Snowshoeing Expedition.

Afternoon adventure: Adventure Journal. Gear return. Packing .

Dinner, farewell party and reflection.

Day 7: Time to Say Goodbye


Breakfast together and farewells.

Transportation to the Airport.

Professional Guides

The guide team consists of professional guides having experience in all the activities included in the program. Main guide is available 24/7 during the adventure. 

Our guides have experience in guiding children and young people in arctic wilderness and have also participated in Adventure Apes in-house training including safety and adventure education training. They are also first aid certified. In addition there might be trainees who are in the Adventure Apes training program.

Adventurers are requested to follow the guide’s instructions in all circumstances.
