This fully guided hiking school camp takes you to the wild to explore one of the most beautiful National Parks of Finland. Experience the best of the Arctic summer as you hike across beautiful old growth forests and white water rivers in the Finnish Lapland. Hike by day and enjoy the evening campfires together with your group under the Northern sky. Cook on an open fire, and swim under the midnight sun.

We are simple and straightforward: For every adventure we provide we’ll give you a fixed per-person price. Our price includes always the following and more.
Safety
The adventure is led by a professional guide team that has suitable safety training for all the activities in the program. We have a detailed safety plan and risk assessment for the camp and the activities. Safety training is given before every activity.
Professional Guide
The adventure is led by a professional guide team with a dedicated main guide and experienced to work with children. Learn more about our guides from below!
Foods & drinks
All food is included. The menu typically consists of typical Finnish foods which are sourced as locally as possible. The food is plentiful and will give you lots of energy. Specific dietary requirements can be accommodated.
Gear for Activities
All the special gear will be provided; however, adventurers will be expected to come prepared for a variety of weather conditions.
Accommodation
Adventure Apes Lodge is located in the countryside of Kuusamo. The rooms are dorm-style with private bathrooms. Bed linen, towels and traditional wood-heated sauna are included. While in wilderness, suitable accommodation such as tents or shelters are provided.
Language
Our adventure are generally available in English or Finnish. Other preferred languages can usually be arranged – ask for other languages.
Free for school personnel or guardians
Adults (up to 3 person) join the adventure for free, but they are requested to participate fully in the program. Adults are also responsible for the night watch and make sure everyone stays in bed between 10pm and 7am.

															Summer Hiking Camp
Camp Programme

Day 1: Arrival and preparations
						
Transportation from Kuusamo Airport. Dinner and get-together with guides. Tour briefing and getting known with the gear.
Review of the route plan with guides. Checking through the personal and shared equipment.
					
Day 2: Arctic Circle Hike Starts
						
Transportation to the starting point. Group photos. 
First day hike through pristine Finnish forest with gorges, cliffs and lush herbs. Hiking time 7–8 hours (19 km / 11.9 miles).
Lunch, snack & dinner in wilderness. Campfire at evening. Sleeping in tents.					
Day 3: Oulanka Visitor Centre
						
Hike to the Oulanka Visitor Centre. After visit hike continues to Kiutaköngäs Rapids and to the camping grounds. Hiking time 7–8 hours (17 km / 10.6 miles).
Navigating and leading hiking teams through forests and fjells in turns. Cooking lunch and snacks outdoors.
Breakfast, snacks & dinner in wilderness. Lunch at Oulanka Visitor Centre.
					
Day 4: Hiking in the heart of the National Park
						
Hike through the Oulanka National Park. Lunch stop at wilderness hut and short stops in camping sites.
Day finishes to the campsite on the shore of River Kitka. Dinner at the campsite. Accommodation in tents.
Possibility to see Reindeer, Siberian Jays or Otters.
					
Day 5: The Most Visited Route
						
Prepare for climbing a lot of stairs. Stunning views ahead.
Lunch at the old mill full of history along the way. Snack break when needed.
Evening campfire at the campsite, dinner and accommodation in tents.					
Day 6: Grand Finale
						
Last stretch of the hike. Hiking to the highest point in Kuusamo and snacks in the most beautiful spots of this hike.
Arrival to the Ruka Village in the evening. A farewell dinner with everybody.
Transporation to the Adventure Apes Lodge. Gear maintenance, after which bathing in a traditional wood heated sauna.					
Day 7: Time to Say Goodbye
						
We like to say a great adventure never ends, it merely changes form to become part of who you are. 
After breakfast transportation to the Kuusamo Airport.

Professional Guides
The guide team consists of professional guides having experience in all the activities included in the program. Main guide is available 24/7 during the adventure.
Our guides have experience in guiding children and young people in arctic wilderness and have also participated in Adventure Apes in-house training including safety and adventure education training. They are also first aid certified. In addition there might be trainees who are in the Adventure Apes training program.
Adventurers are requested to follow the guide’s instructions in all circumstances.
In addition there might be trainees who are in the Adventure Apes inhouse training program.
